Activation panel is intended for the following tasks:

1. Generation of activation codes

2. Decoding of MID codes

3. Validation of serial numbers

4. Generation of activation files

Use [Activation/Activation panel] option from main menu or click on Activation button on toolbar menu to access activation panel.

Together with main activation panel window Custom features, Extended activation and User info panels will also be opened depending on current project settings.

Generation of activation codes

1. Load project settings used for protection of application you need to activate.

2. Open activation panel.

3. Set Site/MID codes provided by end user.

Select V5 option in activation panel to be able to generate activation codes with Site/MID codes generated by applications protected with old Version 5 of PC Guard. Even if this option is disabled, PC Guard will automatically detect if Site/MID codes are generated by application protected with V5 and enable this option.

4. Set custom features as required (optional).

By default no special flag is selected.

- Set Extend evaluation period special flag to generate demo extension activation code.

- Set Disable limited license special flag to generate permanent activation code for application protected with limited license feature.

- Set License extension special flag to generate activation code which can be used for license extension only.

This option should be used when generating license extension activation codes for already activated applications (with valid license). Do not enable this flag when generating activation codes for previously expired or non-activated licenses (activation code will be reported as invalid in this case).

5. Set extended activation options. (optional).

You should use extended activation codes in case you need to:

A) change default demo limitations.

Select 'Update demo limitations' option and set available limitations. This option is available only if demo mode is enabled in project settings.

Select 'Fixed date limitation' to update fixed date limitations.

B) change default limited license limitations.

Select 'Update license limitations' option and set available limitations. This option is available only if limited license is enabled in project settings.

Select 'Add value to existing limitations' if you want number of days/runs values to be added to current values on remote computer instead of replacing them which is default behavior.

If required, change default day of the month expiration.

Select 'Fixed date limitation' to update fixed date limitations.

C) change default custom counters.

Select 'Update custom counters' option and set custom counters.

Click on 'reload' button to reload default values of custom counters.

D) change default maximum number of application instances.

Select 'Update max number of application instances' option and set appropriate value.

NOTE: Default project settings are loaded each time extended activation dialog is open.

6. Click on 'DECODE' button to decode Machine ID (MID) and display locking parameters window. This operation will also check the validity of Site/MID codes. (optional)

7. Click on 'GENERATE' button to generate valid activation code. PC Guard will also automatically generate removal code for license removal feature. Validity of Site/MID codes is also automatically done before generating activation code.

8. Click on 'SAVE' button to save information about generated activation code to activation report.

Activation report is a text file which contains all relevant information about generated activation code and activation files. Activation reports should be kept secure and backed up together with project files and protection reports.

Default activation report filename can be changed manually or by clicking on '...' button. Click on '>' button to open activation report in default text editor.

Generation of activation files

1. Follow above steps 1 - 5 for generation of activation codes.

2. If required, click on "User info" button to open and change user info settings.

3. Select "Embed updates policy" to include updates policy into activation file.

Updates policy can be edited from within activation panel for each activation code without changing default updates policy in project settings.

Updates policy panel includes buttons for reloading default project updates policy (Reload button) and saving currently edited updates policy to project settings as default policy (Save button).

"Limit updates for activated application" and "Change active updates policy on remote computers" options will always be checked and set to read-only on updates policy panel.

Updates policy panel is automatically opened when opening activation panel if activation file feature and updates policy are enabled in remote protection project settings.

If updates policy panel is closed it can be opened again with "Edit" button located next to "Embed updates policy" option.

If "Embed updates policy" option is checked and updates policy panel is closed at the time of generation of activation file, default updates policy settings from project settings will be used as updates policy for activation file.

4. Click on 'GENERATE' button to generate valid activation code.

5. If 'Save activation report' option is enabled activation report will be automatically generated after generating activation file.

Validation of serial numbers

1. Set serial number you want to validate

2. Click on 'VALIDATE' button.

PC Guard will validate serial number and display information about embedded custom features (if any) in case serial number is valid.
